CBD has become a global trend for skincare, pet care, stress relief, medical research, autoimmune diseases and for soothing sore muscles and joints. We’re thrilled to see more CBD being used, but this has led to a ton of confusion about what it is and what it does. We hope to help you separate fact from fiction, and determine if CBD is the right choice for you.
TRUTH: CBD is a non-psychoactive compound and therefore cannot induce a feeling of being “high.”
TRUTH: There are several ways CBD is used in the market today (Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum & Isolate) which contain different components of the original plant. Using the whole cannabis plant instead of removing certain compounds creates what’s known as the entourage effect, an interactive synergy between the cannabis compounds.
Full Spectrum hemp oil includes the stems, leaves and flowers of the plant, providing a wide range of cannabinoids as well as essential vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, protein, chlorophyll, terpenes, flavonoids, and fiber.
Broad Spectrum hemp oil is a full spectrum oil without any THC.
Isolate is a pure source of CBD (99%), where during the extraction process, everything naturally found in the plant matter is removed. This includes any trace of THC, terpenes, waxes, oils, chlorophyll and more.
TRUTH: There is no standard dose that is right for everyone. Differences in metabolism, age and weight all figure into the dose that is just right for you. The goal is to find your “sweet spot.” Because CBD has two phases, higher doses can have the opposite effect of lower doses. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) found within our bodies, seeks balance or homeostasis. Think of it like the classic fairy tale of Goldilocks and the three bears, our ECS wants to keep our body, “just right.” Not too hot, not too cold, not too much sugar, not too little sugar. This system is always working to keep the body and mind in balance.
It’s best to start with a low dose and take it one step at a time. We recommend taking a few doses over the course of a day rather than one big one.
Topical salves and lotions are recommended to use 2-3 times each day.
TRUTH: Topical CBD offers muscle & joint relief, whereas ingestibles are used for mind & body health.
CBD-based salves, lotions, and oils are naturally absorbed into your skin. CBD moves through the skin cell membranes into your muscles, joints, and other tissues where it offers therapeutic benefits. Your body makes a CBD-like compound and welcomes the addition of more CBD to bring a healthy balance back to tissues such as your joints and muscles.
When taken orally, clinical studies show that CBD oil, along with the essential fatty acid anandamide, binds to specialized receptors in the emotional center of your brain. This increases motivation, decreases anxiety, and helps with appetite control and the perception of pain. In general, CBD brings our brain and body back to a balanced and healthy state. It is our experience that topical CBD works in conjunction with ingestible CBD for whole body health and well being.
TRUTH: CBD and THC are both cannabinoids, but produce very different effects. While both are found in various levels in all cannabis plants, CBD is the most plentiful cannabinoid in Sativa (hemp) plants, and THC is most plentiful in Indica (marijuana) plants.
The psychoactive effects of THC give it a reputation of being “stronger” or more potent, but in reality the compounds have entirely different effects and are used for different purposes.
TRUTH: Drug tests are designed to measure THC, not CBD. Hemp products can legally contain 0.3% THC (which is inherently present in the hemp plant). Although the risk is low, each individual is different. We suggest consulting your healthcare professional if you are subject to drug testing.
